How fast can the Mazda Miata go?

Sports car enthusiasts are likely to be familiar with the Mazda Miata. The super compact roadster has been a staple in the sports car market for the better part of three decades, and for good reason. The Miata (or MX-5, if we’re going to get technical) shows off an impressive combination of engine strength and gas mileage all while remaining affordable so the common consumer can still enjoy its many perks. Read more to learn about the 2017 Miata’s engine performance and speed potential.

2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata engine performance

Each of the Miata’s three trim levels (Sport, Club, Grand Touring) feature the same 155 horsepower, 2.0-liter I4 engine. Considering the small stature of the car, that engine packs quite a punch. The Miata records a top speed of 141 MPH and has a 0-to-60-mph sprint of just 6.7 seconds. All levels of the Miata also get a respectable gas mileage of 35 MPG on the highway. We don’t think these numbers and statistics do the feel of driving a Miata justice. We suggest you get behind the wheel for yourself.

Well, why don’t you? Schedule a test drive.

2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata safety features

There is more to this car than a fun, fast ride. In such a small car, drivers might be more concerned with their safety than normal. Mazda has made sure do include all of its safety innovations into the 2017 Miata. Rear cross traffic alert comes available and has the ability to alert the driver of approaching vehicles from behind the Miata. i-ACTIVSENSE® is another available feature that uses milliwave radar and cameras to give warning to the driver of any potential hazards ahead on the road ahead. Combine that with blind spot monitoring and lane departure systems, and you’ve got yourself a fast, fun, compact, safe ride.
